Terrestris Awarded 3rd Prime Contract Providing Wargaming and Environmental Climate Research Support for the US Army War College
Dumfries, VA September 23, 2024 –
Terrestris is proud to announce its recent award providing cutting-edge research and support in environmental security and wargame development to the United States Army War College (USAWC). In partnership with the Department of Strategic Wargaming (DSW) and the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy, and Environment (OASA(IE&E)). Terrestris will conduct essential research and provide strategic foresight on environmental resilience topics critical to military operations. This initiative will focus on environmental factors—particularly pollution—that impact U.S. forces in specific geographic areas across South America. Terrestris will develop a wargame exploring these factors, offering crucial insights into the physical resilience of installations and contingency operations. By combining environmental research with strategic planning, Terrestris will support the USAWC’s mission of preparing leaders to address the evolving environmental challenges that affect military operations and national security.
Terrestris’ research and wargaming Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) support the development of climate and environmental wargames through in-depth research on critical environmental factors such as pollution hazards to U.S. forces, water resiliency, impacts on local populations, and ecological and climate risks in South America. Our team employs rigorous methodologies to investigate these issues and plays a key role in wargame playtesting, contributing to reports, and presentations, and collaborating with environmental resilience experts. We also assist in publishing post-wargame reports. Additionally, our research assistants enhance the process by supporting data analysis and utilizing 3D printing technology for the development of wargame components.
Our staff utilizes advanced tools for data capture and analysis to ensure precise and efficient data collection, leading to actionable reporting. We identify and document the negative impacts of environmental factors and climate change on the health and security of U.S. military installations. This includes conducting comprehensive risk assessments, pinpointing specific pollutants and hazards, analyzing pathways of exposure, and evaluating potential health effects on personnel and operations.
Terrestris integrates key research findings into wargame development for the United States Army War College (USAWC), thoroughly analyzing the accuracy and relevance of environmental factors within the game. Our team provides expert input during playtests to enhance the game’s realism and effectiveness. We design and develop a professional wargame aligned with educational objectives and environmental research. During the development process, Terrestris employs structured observation techniques and feedback forms to systematically assess game mechanics and scenarios. We offer real-time feedback to game developers, identifying areas for improvement and suggesting modifications to enhance realism and playability. Upon completion, Terrestris will manage the training and implementation of the wargame in full alignment with USAWC and Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army, Installations, Energy, and Environment (OASA(IE&E)) objectives.
Alex Horti, CEO of Terrestris, stated: “Terrestris is honored to continue its support of the United States Army War College through this important contract award. This collaboration represents the joint commitment of Terrestris and the U.S. Army War College to advancing research that addresses both current and future strategic needs. By focusing on wargaming, research, and the development of environmental factors that affect our military installations, we aim to provide critical insights that strengthen the resilience and readiness of our armed forces.”
